Get Uncomfortable, Grow Your Business [Video]

Chanelle Segerius-BruceĀ

Time for an internal check-up (and by internal I mean looking inwards, digging deep and finding courage).Ā

You know that feeling, when you’re scared to reach out to somebody or you’re not sure about putting yourself on camera, being in photos, or opening up on social media. You get UNCOMFORTABLE. You know what I mean, the fidgety kind that has you shuffling around in your seat. The good news is, that’s when you know you’re doing something totally worthwhile and your nervous feelings are signs that you’re moving forwards and growing your business.

Kick the microscope and get visible, Stat!

No more hiding – these days you have to be visible and connect with people. Why? Because people want to get to know you. Not the surface you, the real YOU. With ever growing Social Media, the landscape has changed and you need to do things that other people aren’t willing to do. Straight away, this puts you ahead of the pack. For example, 98% of people online watch videos but only 2% of people make videos. Think about your business or the message you want to give to the world. If youā€™re willing to do the thing that 98% of people wonā€™t allow themselves to do – then you’re already winning.

Thisā€™ll only hurt for a minute.

You need to know the truth.Ā  Youā€™re not going to like it but Iā€™m here to tell you that perfectionism, is a form of self-sabotage. Really? Yes, really. When you find yourself agonising over tiny little details (like, is this hat too much?), is that font too big? or is the position of that image slightly off? The diagnosis is unequivocally self-sabotaging.

Paralysis from analysis.

Let me break it down for you. You want to push your business or yourself to another level. You want to get on video or do a live stream but you expect everything to be perfect. The problem is, nothingā€™s ever perfect. Creatives strive to learn new things and push boundaries. That’s what’s exciting about entrepreneurialism.Ā  Owning a biz and getting your ideas out there is what keeps pushing you. Stop double checking, triple checking and critiquing. It’s about the journey, enjoying the ride and learning new things so you improve. Get out of idea and into action – thatā€™s the best medicine.

Refine as you go along. Now say ā€˜Ahhh!ā€™

Not the choked kind of ā€˜Ahhhā€™ you get from visiting your GP with a sore throat. ā€˜Ahhhā€™ as in, Eureka! Go and make that first video or start writing every day. Get the creative juices flowing. A lot of the time creatives get pigeon holed into one form e.g photography, but now you want to try video or something new. Remember, the more you do something the better you become. Take the action – youā€™ll then get better and better and better at it.

Headache? Get outta your head.

Think about what you’ve been wanting to add to your biz or marketing and how you want to get your ideas out into the world. Now start to practice. It all comes from within (told you this was an internal check-up!) and it comes from getting out of your head, moving through fear and taking action despite the fear. You know the fear is there but youā€™re not going to let it hold you back. The reality is that this is the part of the growing process that makes you feel excited. Youā€™re doing something new and stepping up your game.

Vitals and prognosis.

Look inwards, dig deep and find your courage. Be willing to do the things that everybody else is too scared to do – this is vital.Ā  Video or Audio, Social Media or writing – be open and authentic. Get uncomfortable and push yourself – It’ll put you at the top.
